December 2007


The December 2007 Wordfire salon was held on Monday 10th December 2007 - our second literary Christmas show.

As usual the venue was the Red Room, Crown & Sceptre, 308 King William Street, Adelaide. 10th December 2007,

Stephen Lawrence

Stephen Lawrence is working towards a PhD in Creative Writing. His three published collections of poetry are 'Her Mother's Arms,' 'Beasts Labial' & `How Not to Kill Government Leaders.' He was a guest author at Writers' Week, and has been a judge for the Festival Literary Awards since 2002. He is also a judge for the inaugural 2008 Blake Poetry Prize.


Cameron Fuller

Cameron Fuller has lived in Sydney, Brisbane,
Cairns and Canberra, but keeps returning to Adelaide, where he has done most of his living and writing. Having studied at five universities in three states, he is currently working on a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of South Australia. His poetry has appeared in several Australian publications, and his first volume, Low background noise, was published in Friendly Street New Poets 11 in 2006. Recently, he attended a residential poetry masterclass at Varuna Writers' Centre in the Blue Mountains.



Amy T Matthews

Amy T Matthews is many things to many people, but a writer for purely selfish reasons.

She has a PhD in Creative Writing, teaches at the University of Adelaide and is raising two children and a husband (the husband is toilet trained).




Steve Brock


Steve lives in Adelaide with his wife and daughter. He has lived

and travelled widely in South America, and has published his poetry and translations from the Spanish in a range of journals. In 2003 Steve completed a PhD in Australian literature at Flinders University. His first collection of poems, the night is a dying dog, is published in Friendly Street New Poets 12.

Steve recently translated an anthology of Mapuche poets from Chile with Juan Garrido Salgado.



Gemma Parker


Gemma Parker


Gemma Parker is a 23 year old pool shark.
She likes volcanoes, physics and mascara.

watchers and lost hikers.

You can see this band as following in the footsteps of Jack Kerouac, lonely fire watchers on Big Sur, waiting to spot the tell tale plumes of smoke, living off cans of pork and beans and fighting off boredom.

Or perhaps in the context of a cry for help: victims of relationship breakdowns and starry eyed ne'er-do-wells looking for the big break.

They formed in someone's kitchen, rehearsed in someone's lounge room, and abused someone's stage, just the once. Viva the ECR!"

Mandy Treagus

Mandy has played in bands for over 30 years, doing everything from jug bands, cabaret and rock to satirical pieces on tv and radio. In her current musical incarnation, she plays solo in a folk vein about break-ups, losses and life. Despite this, life is fun when the day job doesn't take over.
